Learning and Developmental Plasticity

Learning and Developmental Plasticity, headed by Dr. Elissa Newport, includes three distinct but related lines of research:

Learning and Development Lab

The Learning and Development Lab studies the acquisition of language, the relationship between language acquisition and language structure, and the memory systems that support language learning.

PIs: Dr. Elissa Newport and Dr. Heidi Getz

Pediatric Stroke Project

The Pediatric Stroke Project studies the neural and behavioral organization of language and visual-spatial skills in children and adults who have had a stroke. This project sheds important light on the capacity of the brain to reorganize language and cognitive functions after a brain injury.

PIs: Dr. Elissa Newport, Dr. William Gaillard, Dr Anna Greenwald, Dr. Peter Turkeltaub, Dr. Barbara Landau

Development of Cerebral Lateralization Project

This project asks which areas of the brain are active for different language and spatial tasks, how this changes across development in children (ages 4-12), and how lateralization relates to cognitive representation and behavioral function.

PIs: Dr. Elissa Newport, Dr. Barbara Landau, Dr. Anna Greenwald
